When I first started DJing in 2001 I would buy most of my records from VIP Records in Freehold, NJ. Over time, I would become friends with the owner, DJ Kelee, as well as many other patrons. In 2004 I finally got up the nerve to ask Kelee if I could play with him on one of his nights. Sunday night at Mix Lounge in Long Branch was where I got my chance, and that was the beginning of my time with the VIP crew. At that point the crew consisted of DJ Kelee, DJ Syne, Armand Green, Mike Stefan and Jerry Dunn. Jerry also hosted a weekly online radio show and podcast that he broadcasted live from his apartment, and on September 26th in 2004 he gave me the honor of being the guest DJ for that week.
This is that set. I hope you enjoy, not only the soulful house music, but the early 2000s references as well.

Truth be told, this was my first go at an extended Freestyle set and it went pretty well. It's a genre that I haven't really gone that deep into until now and I had a lot of fun with it. Looking forward to doing it again soon, maybe even at a rollerskating rink event.

Yacht Rock night at Porta Asbury Park 9/21/2024 (partial set rip)
My second go at putting together a Yacht Rock set. A few things could be tightened up here and thereabout all in all I'm pretty happy with the set, as were the guests in attendance. As someone who loves all types of music spanning decades and decades, I get REALLY excited playing things outside of the box that I am typically known for and this was no exception.
